Unitrans is offering a permanent opportunity for a high-calibre Ultra-heavy Motor Vehicle Driver to join the Consumer Division on the Rainbow Worcester contract based in Worcester, Western Cape. This role is suited to an experienced professional driver with a strong safety record, excellent vehicle handling skills, and the ability to deliver goods efficiently to various clients.

About the Role
The Ultra-heavy Motor Vehicle Driver is responsible for operating ultra-heavy duty vehicles to transport goods safely and efficiently between distribution points and clients. The role requires strict adherence to road safety legislation, company SOPs, and operational procedures, including load security, vehicle inspections, and documentation handling.
The position demands flexibility, as drivers must be prepared to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays, while maintaining professionalism and attention to safety at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Preparation and Operation
The successful candidate will prepare vehicles for trips and safely operate ultra-heavy duty vehicles in compliance with the National Road Traffic Act and company standards. This includes conducting pre-trip inspections and ensuring vehicles are roadworthy before departure.
Loading, Transportation, and Offloading
Responsibilities include loading, transporting, and offloading goods either by operating offloading equipment or overseeing the offloading process. The driver must ensure that all loads are secured correctly before departure and that vehicles are not overloaded.
Documentation and Compliance
The role requires handling all required trip documentation and performing ancillary duties as instructed by the Supervisor. Accurate documentation and adherence to reporting procedures are essential.
Safety, Housekeeping, and SOP Compliance
The driver must maintain high standards of housekeeping for vehicles, uniform, and PPE. Strict compliance with SOPs, safety procedures, and defensive driving practices is mandatory.
Customer Interaction and Professional Conduct
Drivers are expected to interact with customers in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner, ensuring positive service delivery and maintaining Unitrans’ reputation.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates applying for this position must meet the following requirements:

Grade 12 / Matric / Senior Certificate

Verbal and numerical literacy (minimum Grade 10 level)

Code EC Driver’s License with valid PrDP (DGP)

Minimum 3 years’ experience driving an Ultra-heavy vehicle

Must be 25 years of age or older

Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
Experience and Professional Background
This role is suited to drivers with proven experience operating ultra-heavy vehicles in a distribution or logistics environment. A strong understanding of vehicle components, defensive driving techniques, load security, and emergency reporting procedures is essential.
