Unitrans is recruiting a proactive and detail-oriented Despatch Supervisor to join the Consumer Division (RCL Milling) on a permanent basis in Pretoria-West, Gauteng. About the Role
The Despatch Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating dispatch operations, ensuring that vehicles, drivers, and dispatch processes operate efficiently and in line with company procedures. This role requires hands-on supervision, accurate recordkeeping, and continuous communication with customers, drivers, and service providers.
The position operates in a fast-paced logistics environment and requires flexibility, including the ability to work afternoon and night shifts. Strong leadership, attention to detail, and operational awareness are essential for success.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Monitoring and Trip Control
The successful candidate will monitor the position of all vehicles and record the movement of each trip on the Fleet Utilisation Report. This includes capturing all data related to vehicle trips, recording abnormal route occurrences, and ensuring accurate documentation for operational reporting.
Customer Communication and Coordination
The role involves liaising with customers regarding stock levels, delivery times, breakdown periods, and collections. Prompt and professional communication is required to ensure service continuity and customer satisfaction.
Driver Supervision and Compliance
A core responsibility includes ensuring that all drivers comply with company policies and safety requirements. This involves confirming that staff are correctly attired in required PPE, ensuring alcohol testing is conducted before shift briefings, and monitoring driver conduct and vehicle compliance.
Administrative and Dispatch Documentation
The Despatch Supervisor will complete and manage all dispatch-related forms, data collection, and calculations, including trip sheets, hours driven, and rest periods. Toll cards must be issued to drivers, and toll fee receipts collected and recorded accurately.
Vehicle Maintenance and Service Coordination
The role requires liaising with service providers regarding vehicle repairs and maintenance. Completing defect report forms and ensuring timely resolution of vehicle issues are essential to maintaining fleet availability.
Health, Safety, and Quality Compliance
The Despatch Supervisor must ensure full compliance with Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality Management requirements. All activities must align with the company’s Code of Conduct, policies, and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates applying for this position must meet the following requirements:

Diploma or Advanced Certificate

Tertiary qualification in Logistics / Transportation Management or studying towards (advantageous)

Minimum 3 years’ experience in the transport industry in a supervisory role

Operational transport experience

Ability to operate all types of trucks

Valid Code 14 Driver’s License

Willingness to work afternoon and night shifts
