Brights Hardware is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Operational Clerk – Stock Department to join its Boston branch in Bellville, Western Cape, on a permanent basis. This associate-level role is ideal for an individual with solid stock control experience who understands the importance of accuracy, availability, and operational efficiency within a retail environment.

The position plays a key role in ensuring that stock is readily available, accurately recorded, and well managed, supporting sales growth, customer satisfaction, and improved profit margins.


About the Role

The Operational Clerk – Stock Department is responsible for supporting the day-to-day stock control and inventory administration within the branch. The role ensures that all stock received, transferred, and stored is accurate, traceable, and compliant with internal standard operating procedures.

This position requires strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining high housekeeping and safety standards.


Key Responsibilities

Stock Availability and Accuracy

The successful candidate will ensure that stock is readily available for customer purchase at all times. This includes verifying the accuracy and completeness of stock received from suppliers and inter-branch transfers against purchase orders, invoices, and delivery notes, in line with established SOPs.

Regular stock counts must be conducted to confirm accuracy and identify discrepancies timeously.


Receiving, Transfers, and Documentation Control

The role includes ensuring that all incoming transfers are logged, distributed, and filed correctly, and that invoices are forwarded to the Administration Department without delay.

Discrepancies such as shortages and overages must be logged daily, with all related paperwork accurately filed for audit and tracking purposes.


Barcode Verification and Stock Identification

The Operational Clerk will be responsible for daily barcode checks when receiving stock, identifying and reporting any irregularities immediately to prevent pricing or scanning issues.

Correct marking, packing, and sorting of stock in the storeroom according to department or supplier is essential to support efficient tracking and retrieval.


Floor Walks and Shelf Replenishment Support

Daily floor walks must be conducted per department, particularly in the mornings, to identify stock gaps and replenishment needs. The role requires close communication with merchandisers and immediate reporting of gaps to the Stock Coordinator to ensure corrective action is taken.


Stock Takes and Operational Support

The role includes participation in perpetual stock takes and performing any additional stock-related or operational tasks delegated by management. Maintaining accurate records and supporting continuous improvement in stock performance is a core responsibility.


Health, Safety, and Housekeeping

Strict compliance with Health and Safety standards is required at all times. The Operational Clerk must ensure that the work area is kept clean, organised, and safe to support efficient operations and reduce risk.


Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Matric or equivalent

  • Candidates without Matric may be considered if in possession of an NQF Level 3 Stock Management qualification (minimum 54 credits)

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the retail or related industry

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a stock-related function

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role

  • Strong numerical ability

  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Internet, Email, Word, Excel)

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

  • Strong time management skills

  • Ability to work under pressure
