About the Role
The Assistant Store Manager plays a key leadership role in supporting the Store Manager with the daily operations of the store. The position focuses on staff training, inventory management, customer service excellence, and maintaining a safe, clean, and visually appealing retail environment.
The role requires the ability to lead by example, resolve customer and staff-related issues promptly, and ensure that all operational standards and company procedures are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service Leadership
The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for leading the sales team by example while ensuring the achievement of personal and store sales targets, including Units Per Transaction (UPT), Average Transaction Value (ATV), and overall turnover.
The role includes actively supporting the team in delivering exceptional customer service, maintaining a strong floor presence, supervising daily floor operations, and allocating team members according to zoning guides to ensure effective coverage and customer engagement throughout the store.
Visual Merchandising Management
The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for implementing visual merchandising standards in line with company guidelines. This includes submitting visual merchandising images weekly and conducting regular visual merchandising walkthroughs during the trading day.
Responsibilities include ensuring that products are correctly tagged, hung, steamed, priced, and replenished to support optimal trade. Continuous self-development and team training on visual merchandising standards form an important part of the role.
Inventory Control and Loss Prevention
The role includes processing all deliveries on the day of receipt, ensuring quantities match invoices, and overseeing tagging, hanging, steaming, pricing, and capturing stock on the system.
The Assistant Store Manager must ensure that the stockroom is maintained according to company standards, with stock positioned correctly to enable timely replenishment. Weekly and monthly stock counts and stock takes must be conducted, verified, and submitted accurately.
The role also involves actively implementing and supervising risk control measures to minimise shrinkage and prevent losses to the company.
Supervising Daily Store Operations
The Assistant Store Manager supports daily store operations by managing time and attendance, following and implementing opening and closing procedures, and ensuring all operational requirements are met.
Responsibilities include overseeing POS operations, cash-ups, cash drops, time and attendance controls, and general housekeeping. The role also involves processing refunds and exchanges in accordance with company policy and escalating matters to Operations Support (OPS) when required.
