This role carries regional responsibility across four operating units, including Milling, Bread, Buns & Rolls, Speciality, and Pies, and is suited to a seasoned security professional with strong governance, risk management, and investigative expertise. The position plays a critical role in safeguarding people, assets, operations, and compliance across multiple sites.
About the Role
The Security Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all Baking Division sites operate within approved security frameworks, policies, and regulatory requirements. Acting as a key liaison between RCL Foods and its security service providers, this role focuses on governance alignment, risk mitigation, incident response coordination, and continuous improvement of security systems and procedures.
The successful candidate will manage complex security environments, oversee investigations, and provide strategic input through reporting, audits, and stakeholder engagement. Strong leadership, analytical thinking, and professional communication skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Governance and Policy Alignment
The role ensures all Baking Division sites adhere to approved security policies and procedures. This includes aligning regional security practices with central RCL Foods standards and conducting regular reviews to ensure ongoing compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal requirements.
Risk Management and Security Assessments
The Security Specialist conducts joint risk assessments with appointed Security Service Providers, identifying threats such as theft, fraud, burglaries, hijackings, and operational vulnerabilities. Mitigation strategies, escalation procedures, and corrective actions are developed and implemented to reduce exposure and strengthen site security.
Incident Response and Investigations
The role oversees and coordinates incident response frameworks across all Baking sites. This includes managing investigations, collecting and verifying evidence, conducting interviews, analysing root causes, and compiling fact-based investigative reports with actionable recommendations to support disciplinary, legal, and risk mitigation processes.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Compliance
Responsibilities include ensuring accurate reporting of security metrics, incidents, and trends. The Security Specialist compiles consolidated dashboards and detailed monthly security reports covering incident statistics, CCTV and access control performance, patrol compliance, risk assessments, and major incident resolutions.
Training, Awareness, and Collaboration
The role supports ongoing security awareness programmes tailored to Baking Division staff. This includes joint workshops with regional offices on emerging threats, compliance requirements, and best practices. Regular security forums are conducted to promote collaboration, shared procedures, and continuous improvement.
Operational Oversight and Stakeholder Liaison
The Security Specialist acts as the primary liaison between RCL Foods and external bodies, including law enforcement, emergency services, regulatory authorities, contractors, and service providers. The role also involves regular depot and bakery visits, oversight of WB staff and reception staff, equipment maintenance, and continuous cash office controls.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Minimum of 6 years’ experience in Security Management

PSIRA Grade A certification

OHS experience
-
Qualification or background in Security, Criminology, or SAPS

NQF Level 6 qualification or advanced security-related certificates

Strong knowledge of security legislation and compliance standards
