Role Purpose

The Shop Assistant / Cashier is responsible for delivering a superior shopping experience through efficient point-of-sale (POS) operations, professional customer service, and high-quality merchandising. You will be the face of Clicks Pan Africa, ensuring that every customer interaction is positive, accurate, and reflects the company’s core values.

Key Job Objectives

1. Point of Sale (POS) & Cashier Excellence

  • Transaction Management: Efficiently execute all operational activities at the till, ensuring customers are served in a timely manner.

  • Accuracy & Integrity: Maintain 100% accuracy when scanning merchandise and processing payments, including the handling of cash, cards, and ClubCard rewards.

  • Loyalty Drive: Proactively promote the Clicks ClubCard program, enrolling new members to help the store achieve its participation targets.

2. Customer Service & Brand Ambassadorship

  • Service Excellence: Act as a visible brand ambassador on the shop floor, offering friendly and professional assistance to all shoppers.

  • Promotional Awareness: Inform customers about current sales, events, and “3-for-2” deals to maximize value for the customer and drive store sales.

  • Product Knowledge: Stay updated on product ranges and new launches to provide accurate information and advice to customers.

3. Merchandising & Store Upkeep

  • Visual Standards: Execute merchandising duties according to store standards, ensuring that shelves are “faced forward” and neatly organized.

  • Stock Control: Support stock management procedures, including checking for expired items and maintaining general housekeeping to Clicks’ high standards.

  • Housekeeping: Ensure a clean, safe, and organized shopping environment at all times.

Requirements & Competencies

Education & Experience

  • Essential: Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.

  • Desirable: At least 50% in Mathematics and 50% in English at a Grade 12 level.

  • Desirable Experience: Previous experience in a customer-facing role within a retail or FMCG environment.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Numeracy: Ability to perform basic math calculations for accurate cash handling.

  • Retail Basics: Understanding of merchandising principles, promotions, and basic stock management.

  • Interpersonal: Strong communication, planning, and organizing skills with a customer-centric mindset.

  • Technology: Basic computer literacy to operate modern POS systems.
