Role Purpose

The Shop Assistant / Cashier is the face of the Clicks brand. Your primary mission is to deliver service excellence by ensuring a smooth, friendly, and accurate checkout experience while maintaining the store’s visual appeal through professional merchandising. You will play a key role in driving sales by promoting our ClubCard loyalty program and keeping customers informed about our latest health and beauty promotions.

Key Job Objectives

1. Point of Sale (POS) & Cashiering Excellence

  • Transaction Efficiency: Execute all operational activities at the till in a timely manner, ensuring that customer queues are managed effectively.

  • Accuracy: Maintain high levels of precision when scanning merchandise and processing various payment methods, including cash, cards, and ClubCard rewards.

  • Loss Prevention: Ensure the safe and responsible handling of cash at all times in accordance with Clicks’ security protocols.

2. Customer Service & Brand Representation

  • Ambassadorship: Act as a visible brand ambassador on the shop floor, offering professional assistance and a welcoming demeanor to all shoppers.

  • Loyalty Growth: Proactively promote the Clicks ClubCard to new customers and enroll them to help achieve the store’s participation targets.

  • Promotional Support: Ensure customers are aware of ongoing deals and events to enhance their shopping experience and drive store sales.

3. Merchandising & Store Maintenance

  • Visual Standards: Efficiently execute merchandising tasks, ensuring shelves are stocked, products are “faced forward,” and pricing labels are accurate.

  • Stock Management: Follow stock management procedures to minimize shrinkage and ensure that the product range is well-presented.

  • Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organized store environment through consistent general housekeeping duties.

Requirements & Competencies

Education & Experience

  • Essential: Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate.

  • Desirable: A minimum of 50% for Mathematics and 50% for English at the Grade 12 level.

  • Experience: Previous experience in a customer-facing role within a retail or FMCG environment is highly preferred but not essential.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Numeracy: Strong basic math skills for accurate cash handling and calculations.

  • Retail Savvy: An understanding of merchandising principles and stock control procedures.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal communication skills and a strong customer-centric orientation.

  • Tech-Savvy: Basic computer literacy to navigate the POS system and digital store tools.
