Role Summary
The Cook at Tsebo Catering is more than just a food preparer; you are a key driver of kitchen efficiency and profitability. You will be responsible for preparing a wide variety of meals—from proteins and vegetables to bakery products—using Standardized Recipe Cards. Additionally, you will play a role in managing purchasing, implementing new menu ideas, and ensuring the kitchen adheres to the highest global standards of sanitation and safety.
Key Job Responsibilities
1. Culinary Excellence & Special Diets

Diverse Cooking: Prepare and cook meats, fish, vegetables, soups, bakery products, and cereals to exact customer specifications.

Nutritional Compliance: Prepare meals for special diets using specific recipes formulated by qualified personnel to ensure health and safety standards are met.

Service Coordination: Plan and manage work orders effectively so that all components of a meal are finished and served simultaneously.
2. Operational & Stock Management

Procurement Support: Monitor stock levels and proactively notify supervisors of food and supply needs. Assist in checking in deliveries to ensure quality and accuracy.

Recipe Integrity: Strictly utilize Standardized Recipe Cards for preparing all products to ensure consistency in taste and cost.

Record Keeping: Maintain detailed food production records to assist in the management of kitchen profitability and waste reduction.
3. Hygiene, Safety & Leadership

Sanitation: Clean the kitchen, utensils, and equipment daily, ensuring refrigerators and freezers are secured.

Safety Reporting: Promptly report any equipment malfunctions or food quality issues to the Kitchen Manager.

Mentorship: Assist in on-the-job training and direct the work of food service workers and students within your assigned area.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Qualifications

Education: Must have completed Grade 12 / Matric.

Certification: A Relevant Culinary Qualification (Professional Cookery or equivalent) is required.
Experience & Skills

Work History: 2–4 years of experience in kitchen preparation and professional cooking.

Multitasking: Proven ability to manage multiple orders and kitchen tasks effectively.

Communication: Ability to communicate clearly with managers and kitchen personnel.
Physical & Schedule Requirements

Stamina: Ability to work in a standing position for long periods and lift heavy equipment.

Flexibility: Must be able to perform shift work, including weekends and nightshifts, as required by the Atok site operations.
