Role Summary
The Cook is responsible for performing a variety of tasks associated with daily food production. Reporting to the Food Service Manager, you will ensure that all meals are prepared with due regard to Health & Safety and Food Safety regulations. This role involves more than just cooking; it requires a proactive approach to general kitchen support, helping to maintain the efficient running of the unit while ensuring our clients receive a professional and quality food service.
Key Work Output and Accountabilities
1. Culinary Production & Service

Daily Preparation: Execute the preparation and cooking of food for daily kitchen production, ensuring consistency in taste, presentation, and quality.

Special Diets: Demonstrate knowledge and skill in preparing specialized dietary requirements (e.g., therapeutic, religious, or allergy-conscious meals) as required by the contract.

Service Excellence: Provide high-quality food service that supports the unit’s goal of achieving total customer and client satisfaction.
2. Food Safety & Operational Compliance

Regulatory Adherence: Ensure strict compliance with all HACCP, Food Safety, and Health & Safety regulations throughout the production process.

Hygiene Standards: Maintain a clean and organized workstation, ensuring that all equipment is handled safely and sanitized correctly.

Waste Management: Assist in controlling food costs by following standardized recipes and minimizing production waste.
3. Teamwork & Unit Support

Collaboration: Contribute to an effective teamwork environment, supporting colleagues and the Food Service Manager during peak periods.

General Duties: Perform ad-hoc general duties required for the efficient operation of the unit in line with commercial contract requirements.
Requirements & Competencies
Education & Experience
-
Minimum Education: Matric (Grade 12) is essential.

Core Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Cook in a contract catering environment is essential.

Certification: A Professional Cookery certificate will be an advantage.

Customer Service: Proven experience in a customer-facing service role is essential.

Industry Exposure: Experience in a Hotel environment will be a distinct advantage.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of food safety standards and kitchen hygiene.

Specialization: Ability to handle complex meal requirements and Special Diets.
