Role Summary
The Mechanic is responsible for the high-level service, repair, and overhauling of complex agricultural equipment and vehicles. Beyond technical maintenance, you will act as a consultant for our clients, providing accurate quotations and building long-term relationships. This role requires a balance of “grease-under-the-fingernails” mechanical work and professional administrative duties, including mentorship and safety compliance.
Key Work Output and Accountabilities
1. Technical Service & Overhauls

Mechanical Excellence: Service, repair, and overhaul mechanical components of tractors, harvesters, and other specialized agricultural machinery.

Troubleshooting: Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical faults to ensure minimal downtime for our farming partners.

Quality Control: Ensure all work is thorough, precise, and accurate, adhering to the highest industry standards.
2. Customer Liaison & Administration

Quotations: Compile detailed quotations based on customer needs and technical specifications.

Documentation: Ensure all worksheets and service records are completed accurately and in accordance with VKB policies.

Warranty Claims: Correctly complete all guarantee claims and information to ensure seamless financial processing for the client.
3. Leadership & Safety

Mentorship: Train and mentor junior personnel and apprentices on VKB’s standard operating procedures.

Health & Safety: Maintain strict compliance with all Health and Safety (OHSA) standards to ensure a zero-harm workshop environment.

Cross-Marketing: Identify opportunities to cross-market VKB products and promotions to add value to the customer’s business.
Requirements & Competencies
Education & Qualifications

Minimum Education: Grade 12 or NQF4.

Technical Training: Completed N2 – Tractor Mechanic (Trade Test preferred).

Clearance: A clear criminal record is mandatory.
Experience & Skills

Experience: At least 3 to 5 years of experience as a mechanic, specifically working with agricultural equipment.

Accuracy: Must be thorough, precise, and accurate in all technical tasks.

Teamwork: Ability to function effectively within a team-driven environment.

Professionalism: Excellent communication skills for liaison with internal departments, suppliers, and clients.
