Role Purpose

The purpose of the P27 Shop Assistant/Cashier at Soweto Bara is to act as the primary point of contact for our customers in a high-traffic retail hub. You are responsible for ensuring the store remains “Ready for Business” through meticulous stock replenishment and merchandising, while providing swift and accurate service at the till points. This role is ideal for a self-motivated performer who can balance technical cashier duties with the physical demands of maintaining a world-class sales floor.

Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

1. Exceptional Customer Service

  • Shopper Assistance: Proactively help customers find the right sizes, products, and styles in our clothing and cellular departments.

  • Complaint Handling: Attend to customer queries or complaints with a professional and helpful attitude, ensuring a positive resolution.

  • Brand Ambassadorship: Consistently live the Ackermans values—courage, care, and commitment—in every interaction.

2. Cashier & Financial Duties

  • Payment Processing: Accurately handle cash, credit card, and debit card transactions using our modern POS system.

  • Specialized Transactions: Process Lay-Bys, customer refunds, and exchanges according to strict company policies.

  • Financial Integrity: Report any discrepancies to the supervisor immediately and ensure accurate till balancing at the end of every shift.

3. Merchandising & Housekeeping

  • Stock Availability: Ensure that the sales floor is constantly replenished so that popular items are always available for shoppers.

  • Visual Standards: Ensure that stock is correctly priced and displays are neat, inviting, and aligned with corporate planograms.

  • Housekeeping: Maintain clean aisles and organized shelves to prevent accidents and enhance the shopping experience.

4. Risk Management & Loss Prevention

  • Security Tagging: Ensure products are tagged according to company policy to prevent shrinkage.

  • Stock Takes: Actively participate in periodic stock takes and mini-counts to ensure inventory accuracy.

  • Vigilance: Be on the lookout for shoplifters or fraudulent activities and report any suspicious behavior to Management immediately.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required

To be successful at Store 2205 in Soweto, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Experience: Previous retail experience is advantageous, but a high-energy, positive attitude is essential.

  • Communication: Must be fluent in English. Proficiency in local languages (e.g., isiZulu, Sesotho, or Setswana) is highly beneficial for the Bara Mall community.
