Role Purpose

The purpose of the P27 Shop Assistant/Cashier is to act as the primary point of contact for our customers. You are responsible for ensuring the store remains “Ready for Business” through meticulous stock replenishment and merchandising, while providing swift and accurate service at the till points. This role is ideal for a self-motivated performer who can balance technical cashier duties with the physical demands of maintaining a high-standard sales floor.

Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

1. Exceptional Customer Service

  • Shopper Assistance: Proactively assist customers in locating products, sizes, and styles to ensure a successful shopping trip.

  • Query Resolution: Professionally attend to customer queries and complaints, escalating to the Supervisor only when necessary.

  • Value-Added Service: Promote store-specific initiatives such as the Ackermans Card, Lay-Bys, and current seasonal promotions.

2. Efficient Cashier Duties

  • Transaction Processing: Accurately process cash, credit card, and debit card payments.

  • Financial Administration: Handle the processing of Lay-Bys, customer refunds, and standard exchanges in accordance with company policy.

  • Till Balancing: Ensure that your till balances at the end of every shift, reporting any discrepancies immediately to the Admin Supervisor.

3. Merchandising & Housekeeping

  • Stock Availability: Ensure the sales floor is constantly replenished so that customers never encounter empty shelves.

  • Pricing Accuracy: Verify that all products are correctly priced and that shelf edge labels match the promotional cycle.

  • Visual Standards: Maintain impeccable housekeeping standards, ensuring aisles are clear and displays are visually appealing.

4. Risk Management & Loss Prevention

  • Asset Protection: Ensure all high-risk products are correctly tagged in line with the national company policy.

  • Stock Takes: Actively participate in scheduled mini-counts and annual wall-to-wall stock takes.

  • Security Vigilance: Stay alert for shoplifting or fraudulent activities (such as card fraud) and report suspicious behavior to Management immediately.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required

  • Communication: Must be fluent in English (written and verbal). Ability to speak a second official language is a major benefit.
