Role Purpose

The Forklift Driver is a critical operational role responsible for the safe and cost-effective movement of heavy building materials. Beyond operating machinery, you are an essential part of the floor team, responsible for merchandising bulk stock, ensuring shelf price accuracy, and maintaining high standards of housekeeping. Your primary goal is to ensure that customer purchases—ranging from cement and bricks to timber—are loaded swiftly and safely without damage to the goods or the customer’s vehicle.

Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

1. Forklift Operation & Maintenance

Safe Handling: Operate the forklift in a safe, disciplined manner, ensuring the protection of staff, customers, and property.
Daily Inspections: Conduct daily pre-operation inspections, complete the required checklists, and report any mechanical faults immediately.
Service Coordination: Monitor the machine’s usage and report in advance when the forklift is due for a scheduled service to prevent operational downtime.

2. Customer Service & Loading

Efficient Loading: Load customer purchases (e.g., bulk cement, bricks, trusses) without delays, ensuring careful placement to avoid vehicle damage.
Sales Support: Acknowledge customers, determine their building needs, and advise them on additional products (e.g., suggesting paintbrushes with paint).
Service Guidance: Educate customers on additional Cashbuild services like glass cutting, plan reading, delivery services, and the VIC Programme.

3. Merchandising & Housekeeping

Planogram Compliance: Merchandise stock according to approved store layouts and technical planograms.
Bulk Management: Ensure all bulk stock areas are merchandised safely; keep aisles free of obstacles and hazards.
Labeling: Maintain correct and visible shelf price labeling within your designated area of responsibility.

4. Safety (OHSA) & Loss Prevention

Load Limits: Strictly adhere to racking and forklift weight limits. Do not stack roof tiles, bricks, or cement more than two pallets high.
PPE Compliance: Wear the required Safety Helmet and Kidney Belt at all times when operating the machine.
Verification: Ensure no product is loaded for a customer without valid proof of purchase or required documentation.
Security: Be vigilant for suspicious behavior and report any display gaps or potential stock losses to management.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

To be considered for this professional forklift role in Vosloorus, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Licensing: Must possess a valid Forklift License (Certified).
Education/Experience: Grade 12 (Matric) OR a minimum of one (1) year of work-related experience.
Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit to operate heavy machinery and handle manual labor when required.
Communication: Ability to communicate fluently in English and the dominant local language of the Vosloorus area (e.g., isiZulu or Sesotho).
Numerical Skills: Ability to perform basic calculations accurately for stock counting and loading.
Availability: Must be willing to work retail shifts, including weekends and Public Holidays.
