Role Purpose
The General Assistant at Ebony Park is a multi-functional role essential to the store’s daily success. You are responsible for ensuring every customer receives comprehensive service, from expert product advice to a seamless checkout experience. Your duties will include high-standard merchandising, accurate shelf price labeling, and maintaining impeccable housekeeping within your designated aisle. This role requires resilience, as you will be expected to work under pressure during peak periods, including weekends and public holidays.
Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities
1. Customer Service & Engagement

Product Advice: Actively advise and assist customers in finding the correct products for their specific needs, handling all queries with a positive “can-do” mentality.

Problem Solving: Assist with and resolve customer complaints efficiently, ensuring a high level of client satisfaction and loyalty.

Hospitality: Create a welcoming store environment by being approachable, friendly, and showing genuine interest in the customer’s shopping experience.
2. Merchandising & Planogram Standards

Stock Alignment: Ensure your area of responsibility is fully merchandised according to the specific store layout and technical planograms.

Bulk Management: Oversee the safe merchandising of bulk stock areas, ensuring heavy items are packed logically and securely.

Pricing Accuracy: Maintain 100% accuracy in shelf price labeling to prevent customer frustration and ensure pricing transparency.
3. Housekeeping & Facility Management

Hazard-Free Aisles: Ensure that your designated area is free of obstacles, allowing customers to move safely without risk of injury or irritation.

Stock Receiving: Merchandise stock immediately upon arrival to keep the floor clear and maintain a “full-shelf” appearance.

Sanitation Checklists: Complete mandatory checklists for the canteen and facility schedules (toilets/showers) when on duty to maintain hygiene standards.
4. Safety (OHSA) & Stock Integrity

Safety Gear: Strictly adhere to OHSA requirements, including the consistent use of safety gear and ensuring all racking is safe for customers and staff.

Stock Loss Prevention: Monitor and report any damaged or expired stock to the Store Manager immediately to minimize financial shrinkage.

Security Reporting: Report any inventory discrepancies or suspicious activities to ensure a secure trading environment.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
To be considered for this professional General Assistant role in Ebony Park, candidates must meet the following:

Option A: Minimum Grade 10 or NQF 3 plus at least one (1) year of work-related retail experience.

Option B: Grade 12 (Matric) without prior work experience.
