Role Purpose
The General Assistant at the Giyani branch is the cornerstone of the store’s daily operations. Your primary responsibility is to ensure comprehensive customer service by assisting shoppers with product queries and maintaining a world-class shopping aisle. You will be responsible for the physical merchandising of stock according to technical planograms, ensuring correct pricing, and maintaining strict adherence to Health and Safety (OHSA) requirements. This role requires an individual who is willing to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays, and can perform effectively under pressure.
Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities
1. Customer Service & Expert Advice

Customer Consultation: Proactively advise and assist customers on the correct products for their specific needs, handling general queries with a “can-do” mentality.

Conflict Resolution: Assist with and resolve customer complaints, ensuring every shopper leaves the store satisfied.

Hospitality: Make every client feel welcome and show genuine involvement in resolving any problems they may encounter in your aisle.
2. Merchandising & Planogram Execution

Stock Alignment: Ensure your designated area of responsibility is fully merchandised according to the store layout and official planograms.

Bulk Merchandising: Ensure that bulk stock areas (including heavy-duty racking) are packed safely and logically to maximize accessibility.

Pricing Accuracy: Maintain 100% accuracy in shelf price labeling, ensuring that the price on the shelf is clear and matches the point-of-sale system.
3. Housekeeping & Risk Mitigation

Safety First: Keep your area free of obstacles, ensuring customers can navigate the aisle without any risk of injury or irritation.

Stock Receiving: Merchandise stock immediately after it is received from the warehouse to keep the floor clear and the shelves full.

Cleaning Schedules: Ensure all checklists are completed as required, specifically maintaining high standards for the canteen and facilities (toilets/showers).
4. Safety (OHSA) & Stock Loss Management

OHSA Compliance: Strictly adhere to safety protocols, including the consistent use of safety gear (PPE) and ensuring racking is secure for staff and colleagues.

Stock Loss Prevention: Monitor and report any damaged or expired stock to the Store Manager to minimize financial shrinkage.

Discrepancy Reporting: Report any inventory discrepancies or suspicious behavior immediately to store leadership.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
To be considered for this professional General Assistant role in Giyani, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Option A: Minimum Grade 10 or NQF 3 and one (1) year of work-related retail experience.

Option B: Grade 12 (Matric) without prior related work experience.

Language: Ability to communicate fluently in English and the dominant local language spoken in the Giyani area (Xitsonga).

Identity: Must possess a valid South African ID or a legal work permit.
