Job Summary
The Workshop Foreman is the technical engine of the dealership. Your primary responsibility is to lead and supervise a team of mechanics and technicians, ensuring that every vehicle serviced or repaired meets Hyundai’s stringent global standards. This role requires a perfect balance of “hands-on” technical mastery and administrative leadership. You will be responsible for the workshop’s productivity, the safety of the environment, and the professional development of your technical staff, all while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities
1. Technical Leadership & Supervision

Team Management: Lead and supervise a team of technicians and mechanics, providing clear direction and ensuring work is completed efficiently and to a high standard.

Production Scheduling: Plan and schedule work orders to optimize workshop throughput, meeting deadlines and exceeding customer expectations.

Quality Control: Conduct regular inspections of work in progress and perform final quality checks to ensure all repairs meet safety and manufacturer standards.
2. Workshop Operations & Asset Management

Inventory Control: Monitor and maintain the inventory of specialized tools and workshop supplies, ensuring the team has the resources required for complex repairs.

Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of all workshop equipment, from diagnostic computers to hydraulic lifts, to ensure a safe and operational workspace.

Health & Safety: Enforce strict adherence to Health and Safety (HSE) protocols to maintain a zero-incident environment.
3. Mentorship & Staff Development

Training: Identify skill gaps and mentor junior technicians, providing on-the-job training to improve their technical proficiency and performance.

Performance Reviews: Monitor the efficiency and productivity of the team, providing constructive feedback to drive continuous improvement.
4. Customer & Liaison Functions

Client Communication: Collaborate with Service Advisors to provide technical updates to customers and address complex mechanical concerns directly when required.

Inter-departmental Liaison: Work closely with the Parts Department to ensure the timeous availability of components for ongoing repairs.
Requirements & Qualifications
To be considered for this pivotal leadership role at Hyundai, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Education: High school diploma (Matric) with a recognized Trade Test (Motor Mechanic). A qualification in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering is highly preferred.

Experience: Proven experience as a Workshop Foreman or in a similar supervisory role within a franchised dealership environment.

Technical Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of modern automotive systems, diagnostic tools, and mechanical engineering principles.
