Job Summary

The Stock Controller is responsible for the strategic oversight and meticulous management of the organization’s inventory. At Hyundai Western Cape, this role involves far more than simple counting; it requires a professional who can optimize stock levels, implement robust control policies, and ensure that the receipt and distribution of inventory are handled with 100% accuracy. You will be a key liaison between the procurement, sales, and service departments to ensure that the branch operates at peak efficiency.

Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

1. Inventory Management & Optimization

  • Record Accuracy: Maintain precise digital stock records, ensuring that every item in the warehouse or on the floor is accounted for in the management system.

  • Optimal Stock Levels: Monitor inventory to ensure stock levels are maintained at optimal levels—minimizing holding costs while preventing stockouts that delay service.

  • Discrepancy Control: Conduct regular physical stock counts and reconcile them against system data to identify and resolve any discrepancies immediately.

2. Logistics & Supplier Coordination

  • Receipt & Storage: Oversee the physical receipt of stock from suppliers, ensuring items are undamaged and stored in the correct locations for efficient retrieval.

  • Supplier Liaison: Coordinate directly with suppliers and head office to ensure prompt delivery of parts and vehicles, escalating any delays to the relevant managers.

  • Distribution: Manage the internal distribution of stock across different departments or satellite branches within the Western Cape region.

3. Analysis & Reporting

  • Reporting: Generate comprehensive stock reports and provide data-driven analysis to management regarding inventory health.

  • Obsolete Stock: Monitor stock movements to identify slow-moving or obsolete items, recommending clearance or return strategies to reduce capital tie-up.

  • Forecasting: Assist in the planning and forecasting of future stock requirements based on historical sales data and upcoming automotive trends.

4. Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Policy Implementation: Implement and maintain rigid stock control policies and procedures in line with Motus Corporation’s governance standards.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the finance and audit teams to ensure efficient stock control processes that can withstand internal and external audits.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

To be considered for this professional stock control role at Hyundai, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: High school diploma (Matric) is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or a related field is highly preferred.

  • Experience: Proven experience as a Stock Controller or in a similar inventory management role, ideally within the automotive or retail capital goods sector.

  • Software: Proficiency in inventory management software (e.g., SAP, Kerridge, or similar ERP systems) and Microsoft Excel.

  • Skills: Strong analytical and organizational skills with an uncompromising attention to detail.

  • Certifications: Professional certification in Inventory Management or Supply Chain Management will be a distinct advantage.

Core Competencies

  • Attention to Detail: The ability to spot minute errors in shipping manifests or inventory logs.

  • Pressure Management: Resilience to work under pressure, especially during high-volume month-end reconciliations.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication skills to interact with suppliers, technicians, and branch management.

  • Independence: The ability to take ownership of the stockroom and work effectively without constant supervision.
