Job Summary
Reporting to the Service Manager, the primary purpose of the Level Year 1 Apprentice is to learn and assist in repairing trucks and buses according to strict dealer and distributor standards. You will be trained to use modern diagnostic equipment to identify faults and execute repairs in the most productive and cost-effective way. This role is a blend of hands-on mechanical work, technical systems diagnostics, and rigorous administrative compliance.
Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities
1. Technical Training & Diagnostics

Fault Diagnosis: Carry out systematic fault diagnosis to speed up vehicle servicing and aid qualified mechanics.

Equipment Usage: Utilize specialized Daimler diagnostic tools and interpret findings to ensure accurate remedies.

Electrical Systems: Assist in and eventually accomplish the servicing of complex electrical equipment within the vehicles.

Repair Standards: Follow DCSA (Daimler Chrysler South Africa) procedures and policies meticulously during all repairs.
2. Operational Efficiency

Cost-Effectiveness: Ensure diagnosis leads to the most accurate and affordable remedy for the customer.

Parts Management: Sign for all parts at the parts department and ensure they are used on the correct vehicle; return any unused components promptly.

Quality Control: Ensure that “comebacks” (repeat repairs for the same issue) are kept to an absolute minimum through attention to detail.
3. Workshop Administration & Safety

Documentation: Complete all service routine forms, draft reports, and ensure job cards are filled out in full and handed to Service Advisors immediately upon repair.

Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and tidy work area and ensure personal protective equipment (overalls) is kept in good condition.

Breakdown Assistance: Attend to breakdown calls as and when required to support the 24-hour service commitment.
Qualification and Skills Requirements
