Job Summary
The Silo Manager is responsible for the efficient operation of the Mkondo Silo facility. This includes overseeing grain intake, drying, grading, storage, and dispatch. The role ensures that all grain is kept in optimal conditions to prevent spoilage while managing inventory levels, coordinating maintenance, and ensuring strict compliance with health, safety, and food safety standards. You will act as a key liaison between the company, local farmers, and suppliers.
Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities
1. Operational Management & Quality Control

Grain Handling: Manage the daily intake, drying, and grading of grain to ensure only high-quality products are stored.

Storage Optimization: Monitor and maintain optimal storage conditions (temperature and moisture control) to prevent spoilage and infestation.

Food Safety: Ensure full compliance with HACCP, ISO, and other food safety standards relevant to grain handling.

Fumigation: Oversee fumigation processes to maintain grain health and meet industry regulations.
2. Inventory & Asset Management

Stock Integrity: Manage inventory levels and ensure 100% accuracy in stock records and reporting.

Maintenance: Coordinate the regular servicing and maintenance of silo equipment and machinery to minimize operational downtime during peak seasons.

Dispatch: Ensure timely and accurate dispatch of grain orders to meet customer requirements and logistics schedules.
3. Financial & Staff Leadership

Budgeting: Implement cost-control measures and manage the silo operations within the approved annual budget.

Team Development: Lead and develop the silo staff through continuous training, coaching, and performance management.

Reporting: Prepare and submit accurate operational, inventory, and financial reports to senior management.
4. Stakeholder Relations

Communication: Foster strong working relationships with farmers and suppliers to ensure smooth operations during the intake season.

Qualification and Skills Requirements
To be considered for this mid-senior management role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Education: Grade 12 / Matric. A Postgraduate qualification in Agricultural Management or a related field is highly advantageous.

Certifications: Mandatory certifications in Grading, Fumigation, and ISO. Relevant certification in silo management or grain handling is essential.
