Job Summary
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the comprehensive repair and maintenance of all diesel and petrol machines, motor vehicles, pumps, and generators on-site. You will be tasked with diagnosing complex mechanical issues and performing full overhauls of critical engine components. The role requires a strategic approach to planning work procedures to minimize downtime for the fleet.
Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities
1. Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance

Diagnostics: Accurately identify and rectify mechanical problems on vehicles, forklifts, and specialized equipment.

Engine Overhauls: Overhaul or replace carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.

Component Rebuilding: Rebuild major parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks.

Hydraulics: Maintain and repair trucks and interlink trailers, including advanced hydraulic systems.
2. Servicing & Roadworthiness

Checklists: Perform routine servicing of company vehicles according to predefined checklists.

Compliance: Ensure all vehicles are maintained in line with South African legal requirements (roadworthiness) and company policies.

Safety: Strictly apply Health & Safety rules and regulations in all aspects of the job.
3. Workshop Administration & Housekeeping

Reporting: Administer regular reports to management regarding breakdown trends, service intervals, and part requirements.

Workspace Management: Maintain a safe, organized, and clean working environment at all times to promote efficiency and safety.

Ancillary Duties: Perform additional technical tasks as determined by management to support site operations.
Qualification and Experience Requirements
To be successful in this application, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

Certification: Must be a Qualified Artisan or have completed a 5-year recognized apprenticeship.

Education: Minimum Higher Certificate (NQF level 5).

Experience: Up to 3 years of post-qualification experience in a similar role.

Licensing: Valid driver’s license is mandatory, with a Code EC license being highly preferred.
