Main Objective of the Role
The Head Miller is responsible for ensuring the milling process delivers consistent, high-quality products that meet strict specifications. This involves real-time process adaptation to optimize efficiencies, controlling variations, and collaborating across the value chain—including Production, Maintenance, Quality Control (QC), and Packing—to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities
1. Milling Process & Quality Optimization

Process Adaptation: Adjusting the milling process as needed to maximize output quality and extraction efficiencies.

Variation Control: Monitoring and controlling process variations to maintain product integrity.

Problem Solving: Supporting root cause analysis and proposing corrective actions to relevant stakeholders for any technical deviations.

Collaboration: Working closely with cross-functional managers to ensure the entire value chain operates smoothly.
2. Ingredient & Stock Management

Stock Control: Ensuring cost-effective management of ingredients by withdrawing stock strictly according to the milling plan.

Machinery Oversight: Ensuring all machinery operates at the correct feed rate and verifying addition rates.

Verification: Performing spot checks on stock control sheets and bin dips against agreed targets to prevent waste and loss.
3. Leadership & Performance Culture

Team Management: Building a high-performance culture within the production shift team through competency-based selection and training.

Development: Coaching, mentoring, and performance management of staff to ensure accountability and discipline.

Communication: Leading Invocoms (Information Visualisation and Communication) and maintaining healthy working relationships with union representatives.

4. Compliance & Continuous Improvement

Safety Standards: Adhering to Health & Safety, Food Safety (FSSC 22000), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Process Improvement: Tracking performance against targets and fostering a culture of continuous learning and lean manufacturing.

Asset Maintenance: Collaborating with the cleaning and maintenance departments to ensure machinery longevity.

Succession Planning: Completing personal development plans to prepare for the future role of Production Manager.
Qualification and Experience Requirements
To be considered for the Head Miller position, candidates must meet the following mandatory criteria:

Education: Fully Qualified Miller (SAGMA / GMF or equivalent) is Essential.

Experience: 6–8 years of experience working as a Head Miller in a similar large-scale environment.

Lean Principles: LSS Yellow Belt or Lean Practitioner certification is highly desirable.
