Main Objective
The primary objective of the Artisan Millwright is to maintain the overall effectiveness of equipment and plants on-site. This involves providing high-level electrical and mechanical support, anticipating machine reliability issues, and taking proactive measures to ensure manufacturing process continuity in a fast-paced FMCG environment.
Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities
1. Preventive Maintenance and Reliability

Issue Anticipation: Identify and troubleshoot possible machine reliability problems before they lead to downtime.

Continuous Improvement: Facilitate and lead problem-solving processes, providing strategic inputs to the maintenance team leader for plant optimization.

Data Analysis: Record and analyze breakdown trends per machine using the internal maintenance system to motivate for equipment upgrades or new purchases.
2. Technical Support and Projects

Ad Hoc Projects: Support site projects, including the renovation, refurbishment, and commissioning of machines and installations to optimize process flow.

Operational Excellence: Ensure all maintenance work is performed to the highest standard to minimize production interruptions.
3. Compliance and Safety

Standards Adherence: Ensure strict compliance with Food Safety, Health and Safety, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements.

Document Control: Maintain process and document controls according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
4. Leadership and Training

Mentorship: Provide on-the-job coaching for Handymen and Apprentices in line with Premier’s Leadership promise.

Supervision: Train and coach Technical Operators on SOPs and work instructions to ensure the adoption of best operating practices across the plant.
Qualification and Experience Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Education: Matric (Grade 12) and an N3/N4 Qualification in a relevant technical field.

Certification: Valid Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal) is mandatory.

Experience: 3–5 years of post-trade experience in the relevant field.
-
Industry Experience: Minimum 3 years in an FMCG environment with specific experience in high-speed continuous operations.
Technical Skills and Competencies

Technical Expertise: Expert knowledge of engineering principles, PLC, and SCADA systems.

Analytical Thinking: Ability to perform root-cause analysis and process re-engineering.

Soft Skills: Strong communication (written and verbal), decision-making, and teamwork abilities.

System Knowledge: Proficiency in maintenance management systems and in-house technical systems.
-
Flexibility: Required to work shifts, be on standby, and perform overtime as dictated by operational needs.
