Main Objective of the Role

The primary focus of the Warehouse Manager is to supervise and manage warehouse staff to ensure the effective and efficient movement of stock from inbound to outbound stages. You will be responsible for streamlining operations, minimizing losses, and ensuring that customer requirements are met in strict accordance with company procedures.

Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

To succeed in this role, the successful candidate will need to optimize the flow of stock through several critical operational management processes:

1. Warehouse & Stock Optimization

  • Utilization Planning: Designing and implementing effective warehouse layout and space utilization plans.

  • Process Flow: Managing the organizational flow of goods to ensure seamless transitions.

  • Stock & Pallet Control: Overseeing picking controls, stock rotation (FIFO/FEFO), and the management of pallets and bulk flour tankers.

  • Housekeeping: Maintaining a high standard of general housekeeping to ensure a professional and safe environment.

2. Financial & Cost Management

  • Budgeting: Developing and managing the warehouse budget in collaboration with site management.

  • Cost Reduction: Minimizing operational costs through internal cost management practices and participating in site-wide continuous improvement initiatives.

3. Compliance, Safety, and Quality

  • FMCG Standards: Ensuring 100% compliance with Premier FMCG safety standards and food safety protocols.

  • Audit Readiness: Implementing daily cleaning processes and operational controls to achieve satisfactory internal and external food safety audit results (FSSC 22000).

  • Health & Safety: Acting as a key stakeholder in OHS Act compliance to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.

4. Leadership and People Management

  • Performance Culture: Creating a high-performing team by managing staff performance in line with “The Premier Way.”

  • Development: Facilitating effective Invocoms (Information Visualisation and Communication), coaching, mentoring, and proactively managing talent to mitigate succession risks.

Required Skills and Attributes

  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of stock and cost management processes and Microsoft Office.

  • Leadership: Strong disciplinary, performance management, and mentoring skills.

  • Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with Process Control Systems, Lean Green Belt principles, and FSSC 22000 training.

  • Legal Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of Health and Safety Act requirements for 8.2 appointees.

Qualification and Experience Requirements

  • Education: Matric (Grade 12) and a Logistics or Supply Chain Management Diploma.

  • Experience: 5–7 years of supervisory management in continuous operations (Essential).

  • Industry Experience: 3–5 years of FMCG warehouse management experience (Essential).

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Flexibility: Availability for excessive working hours, including weekends and shifts as required.

  • Environment: Ability to work in environments exposed to noise and warm temperatures (milling facilities).

  • Mobility: Must have own transportation to commute to the mill or travel as necessary.
