Job Description
The Staff Nurse role at PathCare is integral to the smooth operation of our laboratory services. You will perform phlebotomy procedures, assist with specimen collection, and run Point of Care instruments such as Hemocue, Stratus, and arterial blood gas analyzers. Your work ensures that samples are collected safely and accurately, maintaining specimen integrity and supporting timely and precise diagnostic outcomes.
In this role, you will also manage patient interactions, educate clients on procedures, and ensure that all administrative tasks are completed efficiently. Your professional and empathetic approach will help create a welcoming environment for patients while reinforcing PathCare’s reputation for reliability and excellence.
You will often work independently during shifts and collaborate with colleagues to manage workflow, respond to urgent needs, and maintain compliance with all safety and laboratory protocols. Your responsibilities will include monitoring equipment, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring that specimens are properly stored and transported.

Role Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Enrolled Nurse Certificate and current registration with SANC
- Phlebotomy experience is essential
- Pathology experience highly advantageous, including order of draw and operation of Point of Care instruments
- Computer literacy; familiarity with Meditech is advantageous
- Valid South African Code B driver’s licence (manual transmission)
- Minimum of 1 year post-registration nursing or phlebotomy experience
- Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
