Job Description
The Night Duty Medical Technician/Technologist/Laboratory Scientist role at PathCare is a dynamic and demanding position requiring both technical competence and professionalism. You will be responsible for performing laboratory analyses, quality control procedures, and technical troubleshooting during night shifts while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, compliance, and ethics.
In this role, you will manage diagnostic specimens, oversee laboratory instruments, and ensure that all procedures adhere to SANAS-accredited quality standards. You will work independently during night shifts, handling all aspects of the laboratory workflow, including technical procedures, problem-solving, and liaising with internal and external clients to resolve queries.
You will be expected to display initiative, manage time effectively, and demonstrate resilience under pressure. Your work will involve supervising junior staff and students, providing guidance and mentorship while fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement. Night shift responsibilities also include maintaining accurate records, managing stock levels, and ensuring all laboratory operations are compliant with clinical protocols.

Job Requirements
Role Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

3-year Biomedical Technology Diploma, 4-year Medical Laboratory Scientist Degree, or Medical Technician Certificate in Clinical Pathology

Current registration with the HPCSA in Clinical Pathology

1-2 years of post-registration clinical experience
-
Computer literacy; Meditech knowledge is advantageous

Experience in night duty and independent work is preferred

Knowledge of stock management systems, QA systems, and technical procedure development

Strong client-focused mindset and excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to train and mentor junior staff and students
