Job Description
The Despatch Controller role at Ampath is a dynamic and critical position responsible for overseeing the nightly despatch and logistics operations of the Cape Town branch. You will coordinate the movement of vehicles, couriers, and deliveries, ensuring that schedules are adhered to, urgent requests are prioritised, and all operational protocols are followed with precision. This role is central to maintaining operational continuity and supporting patient care through timely delivery of specimens and laboratory materials.
Daily responsibilities include monitoring the flow of despatch activities, assigning routes to couriers, checking documentation for accuracy, and resolving logistical challenges as they arise. You will ensure that vehicles are loaded correctly, routes are optimised, and deliveries meet Ampath’s high standards of accuracy, reliability, and timeliness. In urgent situations, your ability to think quickly and manage resources effectively will ensure critical specimens and medical materials reach their destinations safely and without delay.
This role also involves liaising with laboratory personnel, clients, and couriers, maintaining open communication to ensure clarity and efficiency across the branch. Your role supports the operational goals of Ampath, helping maintain compliance with standard operating procedures and quality standards while fostering a culture of teamwork and excellence.

To excel in this position, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

Grade 12 / Matric certificate

Valid South African driver’s licence – Code EB and/or Code A

A proactive, solution-focused mindset
While prior logistics or despatch experience is an advantage, Ampath welcomes candidates with the right attitude, eagerness to learn, and willingness to develop within the organisation.
