Job Description
The Phlebotomist position at Ampath involves the skilled collection of blood and non-blood specimens, following strict quality and safety protocols. Your daily responsibilities will include preparing patients for specimen collection, ensuring their comfort, explaining procedures clearly, and maintaining patient dignity throughout the process. You will manage documentation, process payments where applicable, and follow all administrative protocols. This includes correctly labelling specimens, handling equipment safely, and adhering to strict hygiene and infection-control standards.
You may also be required to assist with administrative tasks such as answering patient inquiries, coordinating specimen flows, and ensuring that all documentation is accurate and compliant with Ampath’s quality management policies. To qualify for this position, you must have:
- A recognised qualification in Phlebotomy or Nursing
- Current registration with the HPCSA or SANC, depending on your qualification
These requirements ensure that you have the necessary theoretical medical knowledge, ethical understanding, and regulatory compliance to perform safe, standardised phlebotomy procedures. Registration with the appropriate council is essential for maintaining professional standards and ensuring accountability in patient care.
