Position Overview
The Security Officer will be responsible for providing access control, patrolling premises, monitoring security equipment, and ensuring the safety of employees, visitors, and property at the SAPS Academy Philippi. This role requires adherence to legislative and departmental prescripts and maintaining high standards of vigilance and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities

Execute access control per the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act (Act No. 53 of 1985).

Verify identity of employees, visitors, and contractors.

Register and authorize entry of personnel in line with legislative requirements.

Issue and retrieve visitor admission cards and maintain visitor registers.

Inspect suppliers, objects, and equipment before entry into premises.

Patrol buildings and fenced-off areas.

Guard vehicles and equipment in the field from a security perspective.

Monitor security equipment, report deficiencies, and escalate security concerns to senior personnel.
Minimum Requirements

Education: Grade 10 (Standard 8) / ABET (NQF Level 3).

Language: Fluent in at least two official languages, including English.

Registration: Must be registered with PSIRA and possess at least a Grade C security certificate.

Legal Compliance: No criminal record, no pending departmental or criminal cases, and fit to possess a firearm.

Skills & Attributes:

Firearm competency (willing to undergo and maintain training).

Willingness to work shifts and extended hours.

Relevant security courses and a valid driver’s license (advantageous).
