Position Overview

Smollan is seeking a highly motivated HR Graduate to join our Cape Town team. This position is perfect for a recent graduate with a passion for human resources, analytics, and organizational development. The HR Graduate will work closely with the HR team to support operational excellence, talent development, and employee engagement initiatives.

The role offers exposure to a dynamic retail environment and the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of HR, including data analysis, recruitment, learning and development, and employee relations.

Key Responsibilities

HR Operations and Administration

  • Assist in the administration of HR processes and procedures, ensuring compliance with company policies and labor legislation.

  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR databases, including personal information, training records, and performance evaluations.

  • Support the onboarding and induction process for new hires, ensuring a seamless experience for all employees.

  • Contribute to payroll administration and benefits management as required.

Talent Acquisition and Recruitment Support

  • Assist in drafting job advertisements, screening applications, and scheduling interviews.

  • Participate in recruitment drives and coordinate with hiring managers to ensure timely and effective talent acquisition.

  • Support diversity and inclusion initiatives during the recruitment process.

Employee Engagement and Development

  • Assist in organizing training sessions, workshops, and employee development programs.

  • Gather and analyze employee feedback to inform HR strategies and improve workplace satisfaction.

  • Support initiatives aimed at fostering a positive and inclusive organizational culture.

HR Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Collect, maintain, and analyze HR data to identify trends and generate actionable insights.

  • Prepare HR reports for management, highlighting key metrics such as employee turnover, absenteeism, and training effectiveness.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by providing data-driven recommendations.

Compliance and Governance

  • Support HR compliance with labor laws, internal policies, and statutory requirements.

  • Assist in audits and ensure accurate documentation of HR processes and records.

Job Requirements

  • Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Business Administration, or related field.

  • Experience: Recent graduate or up to 1 year of relevant HR internship or work experience.

  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Hands-on attitude with a proactive approach to problem-solving.

    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data effectively.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

    • Strong organizational and time management abilities.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
