Position Overview
We are looking for a dynamic, results-oriented Sales Representative to join our high-performance team in the Free State region. This role is ideal for a driven sales professional with solid FMCG experience who can build strong retail relationships, deliver exceptional customer service, and achieve consistent sales growth.
As a Sales Representative at Smollan, you will act as a key link between our clients’ brands and the retail environment. Your role will include sales acquisition, merchandising excellence, promotional execution, and relationship management with key retail partners. You will also support the company’s objectives through operational efficiency, strategic stakeholder engagement, and consistent delivery of POP standards.

Key Responsibilities
Client Acquisition & Sales Growth
- Identify new business opportunities and grow market presence across the Free State region.
- Generate high-quality sales leads and proactively pursue new retail partnerships.
- Achieve and exceed sales targets through consistent execution of company strategies.
Sales & Communication Management
- Present product solutions confidently to retail partners.
- Communicate new promotions, pricing, and product launches.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to support long-term growth.
Customer Service Excellence
- Resolve retail partner queries in a timely and professional manner.
- Provide product support and ensure optimal brand representation.
Key Account Management
- Develop and nurture relationships with key retail accounts.
- Ensure proper stock levels, optimal shelf placement, and adherence to merchandising guidelines.
Promotions & Brand Visibility
- Execute promotional campaigns that enhance brand exposure.
- Set up advertising displays, position products strategically, and ensure pricing accuracy.
- Monitor competitor products and pricing trends for reporting and strategy improvement.
Merchandising & Operational Execution
- Maintain excellent in-store product visibility, displays, and POP material.
- Conduct routine stock management checks and ensure FIFO principles.
- Support retail teams in driving product movement and sales.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with internal teams—including Marketing, Logistics, and Sales—to achieve strategic goals.
- Collaborate with retail managers to ensure alignment on store-level priorities.
Minimum Requirements
- 2–3 years FMCG sales experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Diploma or equivalent NQF Level 5 qualification.
- Valid Code 8 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Excellent analytical, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong business acumen with solid negotiation and selling skills.
- Computer literate with sound organisational skills.
- Ability to thrive under pressure, manage competing priorities, and make effective decisions.
- Knowledge of industrial relations is an added advantage.
