Position Overview
FlySafair is seeking a highly strategic and experienced Senior Manager: Training to lead the organisation’s enterprise-wide Learning & Development function.
This senior leadership role is responsible for developing a multi-year training strategy that aligns business transformation, regulatory requirements, future capability needs, succession planning, and organisational culture.
You will oversee governance, regulatory training, capability reviews, talent readiness, LMS optimisation, data-driven reporting, compliance frameworks, and learning innovation across the business.
The ideal candidate is a visionary L&D strategist with deep aviation training expertise, exceptional leadership ability, and a strong track record of driving organisational capability at scale.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Training Governance

Develop and implement a multi-year, business-driven training strategy aligned with regulatory requirements and organisational transformation goals.

Provide executive-level oversight of L&D priorities, ensuring sustainable capability development.

Lead organisation-wide capability reviews to address current and future workforce risks.

Oversee development and governance of leadership, technical, and behavioural skills programmes.

Foster a culture of continuous learning through blended learning, digital platforms, coaching, and mentoring frameworks.

Establish robust training governance frameworks aligned with business and regulatory expectations.
Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation

Ensure full compliance with statutory, industry, and professional aviation training requirements.

Liaise with regulatory bodies, accreditation authorities, and internal compliance teams.

Maintain validity, alignment, and accreditation of all training programmes.

Monitor and report on compliance levels, proactively addressing risks and non-conformances.

Ensure full adherence to TETA submissions, SACAA requirements, and CATs/CARs regulations.
Learning Systems & Quality Assurance

Oversee the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring relevance, accessibility, and engagement.

Standardise training documentation, processes, and audit readiness.

Implement monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to measure ROI, learning impact, and compliance.
Data, Reporting & Workforce Planning

Deliver monthly and quarterly reports including training hours, completion rates, budget alignment, ROI and impact metrics.

Ensure 100% accuracy of training data and develop dashboards for leadership.

Use data-driven insights to shape HR, OD, and workforce planning initiatives.
Budget & Vendor Management

Own and manage the Training budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment to strategy.

Negotiate and maintain strategic vendor relationships.

Drive innovation through digital learning, AI-driven learning tools, predictive analytics, and skills marketplaces.
Team Leadership & Collaboration

Lead and develop a high-performing team across L&D and regulatory training portfolios.

Partner with HR, Compliance, Safety, Line Managers, and regulatory authorities to deliver integrated training solutions.

Provide strategic advice to leadership on training gaps, capability risks, and talent readiness.
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential)
-
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or related field (Essential)

Honours degree in HR, Business Leadership, or related field (Essential)

Master’s degree in HR, Business Leadership, or related field (Advantageous)

ETDP SETA accreditation (Advantageous)
-
10–12 years relevant experience, including 5+ years in aviation training (Essential)

5+ years managerial experience (Essential)

Experience managing Aviation Regulatory Training (Essential)

Strong knowledge of CATs, CARs, SACAA regulations, SOPs, and aviation training systems
-
Experience designing and managing soft skills and technical training programmes

Excellent knowledge of educational and training methodologies
