Position Overview
The ARC is seeking to appoint Farm Assistants – Facilities X4 at the Tropical & Subtropical Crops (ARC-TSC) division in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.
This role provides hands-on experience in fruit farming operations, offering exposure to field practices, maintenance, and farm management processes. Farm Assistants will work under the supervision of farm management or researchers to support daily operations and ensure smooth running of the farm facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Farm Assistants will be expected to:

Carry out farm practices as directed by farm management or researchers.

Perform manual tasks assigned by supervisors, including orchard and fieldwork duties.

Ensure the proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment provided.

Observe Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) protocols, including the use of protective clothing.

Assist with basic repairs and maintenance, leveraging any construction-related experience (plumbing, carpentry, or building) when applicable.

Support the team in general farm operations, including irrigation, planting, pruning, and harvesting tasks.

Maintain a safe and productive work environment through adherence to safety procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Grade 10 or equivalent.
-
1–2 years’ experience in a fruit farming environment.
-
Understanding of basic agricultural practices.
-
Basic knowledge of manual operation of farm equipment and machinery.
-
Experience in the construction industry (plumbing, carpentry, building, etc.) is an added advantage.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-
Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
-
Willingness to work under adverse weather conditions.
