Position Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for the Hemmingways store in East London. In this role, you will provide pharmaceutical care by taking responsibility for patients’ medicine-related needs and ensuring accurate and professional dispensing services.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances

  • Prepare, compound, and manipulate non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and SOPs

  • Repackage, distribute, and control stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines

  • Assist with ordering medicines up to Schedule 6 as authorised by the Medicines Act

  • Read, prepare, label, and supply prescriptions following pharmacist evaluation

  • Accurately capture script details and verify patient information

  • Ensure proper picking, packing, and labelling of medicines while monitoring dosages and drug interactions

  • Advise patients on correct medication usage and provide health information

  • Manage medical aid claims, authorisations for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication

  • Maintain and merge customer profiles while responding to messages and queries

  • Monitor low or out-of-stock items and report discrepancies to the dispensary manager

  • Receive and merchandise stock according to SOPs and FEFO principles

  • Assist with bi-annual stocktakes and exercise cash, stock, and asset control


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification

  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

Advantageous Skills:

  • Knowledge of Retail/FMCG operations

  • Experience with Unisolv, SAP, or E-Scripting

  • Oncology experience

  • Third additional language

  • Knowledge of drug, family planning, and complementary medicines
