About the Position

The Communications Officer: Media Liaison and Monitoring is a key role in supporting government communications, media engagement, and public relations strategies. This position is ideal for professionals with expertise in journalism, media relations, and social media management, seeking high-paying administrative and communication roles within the public sector.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily media monitoring and analysis, producing accurate and timely reports.

  • Draft and distribute press releases to media outlets.

  • Write articles for departmental publications and social media platforms.

  • Compile media coverage reports after campaigns and events.

  • Organize media interviews and liaise with journalists and media houses.

  • Maintain and update the media attendance register and media database.

  • Implement and execute media plans for campaigns and events.

  • Facilitate monthly editorial meetings.

  • Increase engagement across social media platforms.


Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma/Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or an equivalent SAQA-recognized qualification.

  • Minimum 1–2 years’ relevant work experience.

  • Valid driver’s license.


Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of public service prescripts and communication policies.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Expertise in media relations and public engagement.

  • Computer literacy, including MS Office and social media tools.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

  • Flexibility to work long hours when required.
