Position Overview

The Department of Health is seeking qualified Foremen to manage vector control and environmental health activities across multiple districts. The role includes supervision, field operations, community mobilization, and accurate reporting to ensure effective malaria prevention and disease control.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct vector control operations, including indoor residual spraying (IRS) and larval source management.
  • Mix and handle insecticides safely; load and offload materials.
  • Assist with client property management during spraying, including covering furniture.
  • Investigate malaria and other disease cases and conduct community surveillance.
  • Perform cleaning functions at health facilities, including vehicles, buildings, and surroundings.
  • Collect, capture, and collate data during disease control operations.
  • Conduct environmental and community disease surveillance.
  • Mobilize communities through door-to-door outreach and work with schools and community structures to encourage malaria testing.
  • Compile monthly and quarterly reports related to disease control programs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualification: National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, Health Science, Biomedical Sciences, or Medical Sciences (NQF Level 6 recognized by SAQA).
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Knowledge of malaria signs, symptoms, prevention, and treatment
    • Strong administration, report writing, and communication skills
    • Computer literacy: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; Virtual meeting platforms
    • Valid Code C driver’s license with PDP
  • Competencies in malaria and other disease control programs
