About AFGRI Farmer Development
AFGRI Farmer Development (AFD) is dedicated to developing future agricultural leaders through structured learnership and skills development programmes. The 2025/26 Learnership Programme provides unemployed South African graduates and learners with practical training in farming with crops and animals, combining both on-the-job and off-the-job learning at the Vastfontein Training Farm in Pretoria North.
AFGRI supports historically disadvantaged individuals, women, and people with disabilities, offering a platform for them to gain valuable agricultural skills, hands-on experience, and exposure to cross-functional farming operations.

Position Overview
AFGRI Farmer Development invites applications for 18 Learnership positions at Vastfontein Farm. This 12-month learnership programme is designed to equip participants with comprehensive farming experience, including crop cultivation, livestock management, farm operations, and project work.
Participants will enter into a fixed-term contract with AFD, working alongside a cross-functional team, gaining exposure to real-world farming challenges and skill development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities

Assist in daily farm operations for crops and animals.

Participate in on-the-job training under experienced mentors.

Support project work and team-based farm initiatives.

Maintain accurate records of farm activities, livestock, and crops.

Ensure compliance with AFGRI farm policies and safety protocols.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives on the farm.

Attend off-the-job training sessions to complement practical experience.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:

South African citizenship.

Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.

Unemployed and seeking practical farming experience.
Desirable:

Preference for women and people with disabilities.

Strong interest in agriculture, crop farming, and animal management.

Ability to work in a team-oriented and structured learning environment.

Special Conditions of Employment
