Position Overview

Takealot is seeking an experienced Advanced Analytics Manager to lead its Engineering Data department. Reporting to the Engineering Director (Data), you will oversee a team of analysts and drive advanced analytics initiatives to support business units across the Takealot Group.

This strategic role focuses on establishing new methodologies, standards, and best practices for predictive and prescriptive analytics, enabling data-informed decision-making across the organisation. The Advanced Analytics Manager will collaborate closely with BI and Analytical Engineering teams to deliver high-quality analytics solutions integrated into business intelligence systems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Advanced Analytics Leadership

  • Lead the Advanced Analytics strategy, aligned with the Group Data Strategy.

  • Oversee a cross-functional team of analysts supporting multiple business verticals.

  • Manage analytics initiatives from problem definition to implementation, including model development and ongoing oversight.

  • Establish consistent methodologies for analytics processes, tools, and frameworks for scalability and quality.

2. Stakeholder Collaboration & Business Impact

  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify business needs and translate them into analytics projects.

  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders to prioritize analytics workstreams.

  • Drive analytics adoption and data-informed decision-making across the Takealot Group.

  • Provide strategic guidance on emerging analytics technologies and methodologies.

3. Team Development & Mentorship

  • Train, mentor, and guide analysts to foster professional growth.

  • Develop programs to enhance general data literacy across the organisation.

  • Build and implement data product certification standards and ensure adoption.

4. Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure analytics solutions adhere to data governance, privacy, and compliance standards.

  • Own key data products, ensuring accurate cataloguing and maintenance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or advanced Diploma in Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field. Advanced degrees (Master’s / PhD) highly advantageous.

  • Experience:

    • Extensive experience in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and machine learning.

    • Strong SQL and programming skills (Python or R).

    • Hands-on experience with advanced analytics platforms and cloud-based tools.

  • Other Requirements:

    • Deep understanding of analytics pipelines from data preparation to production deployment.

    • Knowledge of Agile methodologies, data governance frameworks, and retail/e-commerce analytics is advantageous.

    • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
