Role Overview

The Assistant Store Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of GALXBOY’s store at the Diamond Pavilion Mall in Kimberley. The role requires a motivated and proactive individual with strong leadership abilities and an eye for detail.

From leading the sales team to managing inventory and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction, this position demands someone who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment. The successful candidate will work closely with the Store Manager to ensure operational excellence, visual merchandising compliance, and achievement of sales targets.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service Leadership

  • Lead the sales team by setting the standard for professionalism, enthusiasm, and customer engagement.
  • Drive personal and team sales performance, ensuring company targets for unit per transaction (UPT), average transaction value (ATV), and overall turnover are consistently achieved.
  • Provide hands-on floor presence, supervising operations, zoning staff effectively, and motivating the team to deliver world-class service.
  • Handle customer complaints with empathy and efficiency, ensuring quick resolution and long-term customer loyalty.

Visual Merchandising

  • Implement visual merchandising standards according to brand guidelines and submit weekly photographic reports.
  • Conduct daily visual merchandising checks to ensure displays are appealing, products are properly tagged, priced, steamed, and replenished.
  • Train and assess the team on merchandising practices to guarantee a consistently high standard of presentation.

Inventory Control

  • Process incoming deliveries on the same day, verifying quantities against invoices, tagging, steaming, and capturing items in the system.
  • Maintain an organized stockroom to enable efficient replenishment and reduce downtime.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly stock counts, ensuring accuracy in reporting and minimizing stock variances.
  • Implement risk control measures to reduce losses and maintain inventory integrity.

Supervising Daily Operations

  • Manage staff schedules, time and attendance, and adherence to company policies.
  • Oversee the implementation of store opening and closing procedures.
  • Handle point-of-sale (POS) operations, including refunds, exchanges, cash-ups, and cash drops.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and visually pleasing store environment that aligns with the GALXBOY brand experience.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Matric certificate is compulsory.
  • A bachelor’s degree in retail management, business, or a related field is advantageous.
  • 1–2 years’ experience in a managerial role within a retail environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to inspire, coach, and develop a sales team.
  • Excellent customer service skills with in-depth knowledge of retail operations.
  • Computer literacy and ability to work with POS systems.
  • Passion for fashion, retail, and delivering an outstanding customer experience.
  • Valid driver’s license is advantageous but not compulsory.
