The company plays a critical role in connecting global economies and supporting the international movement of goods. MSC South Africa, with its office based in Cape Town, is seeking an experienced and diligent Export Freight Clerk to join its Export Freight Department.
Role Overview
As an Export Freight Clerk, you will support MSC’s export operations by ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing of shipping instructions, manifesting bookings, and communicating with clients. You’ll work closely with clients, internal teams, and freight data systems to manage documentation processes, troubleshoot discrepancies, and maintain workflow accuracy.
This role is ideal for candidates with previous experience in shipping or freight forwarding who are methodical, detail-oriented, and capable of managing high workloads during seasonal peaks.
Key Responsibilities

Receive and process shipping instructions (SIs) timeously for all bookings

Liaise with clients to obtain outstanding or corrected shipping documentation

Verify that all shipping instructions meet local and international regulatory standards

Perform comprehensive checks against the Agency System and SI before submitting for manifesting

Ensure all bookings are accurately manifested and that the Booking Mismatch Report is cleared before the DTX transmission

Communicate directly with clients for any discrepancies or required amendments

Issue draft Bills of Lading to clients post-manifesting and ensure changes are promptly updated

Submit amended copies to the Data Capture Clerk and issue final drafts once changes are captured

Resolve documentation-related queries in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders

Execute any other reasonable administrative or operational instructions given by the department manager
Qualifications and Experience

Proven work experience in freight forwarding, shipping, or logistics

Familiarity with shipping documentation protocols, customs procedures, and freight system interfaces

Matric (Grade 12) required; further certifications in freight forwarding or logistics are advantageous

Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage document-heavy processes

Experience handling peak season volumes, with a willingness to work overtime when required
