ROLE OVERVIEW
The Fleet Controller is a critical logistics role responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the company’s transport fleet. From managing daily vehicle inspections and maintenance schedules to optimizing delivery capacity and coordinating cross-department communications, this role sits at the heart of fleet performance and compliance management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fleet Operations & Monitoring

Conduct and verify pre-trip vehicle inspections

Address fleet-related issues promptly and ensure corrective measures

Optimize fleet usage using truck performance metrics and scorecards
Fuel & Efficiency Management
-
Daily tracking and analysis of fuel usage

Investigate and resolve any fuel discrepancies or inefficiencies
Fleet Maintenance & Record Keeping

Schedule vehicle services and repairs, managing vendor engagements

Keep detailed logs of all services, repairs, and fuel consumption
Fleet Image & Hygiene

Maintain a clean, professional fleet appearance

Ensure regular truck washing and hygiene inspections
Compliance, Safety & Risk

Ensure all vehicles meet legal and safety standards
-
Manage service providers and verify compliance with safety policies
-
Lead initiatives in workplace risk reduction and emergency readiness
Breakdowns & Delivery Readiness

Align fleet availability with delivery schedules

Oversee breakdown systems to reduce disruptions and delays
Cost & Vendor Management

Control costs through proactive defect management and repair tracking

Compare service provider quotes to secure best-value partnerships
Team Leadership & Communication

Lead team meetings, monitor attendance and individual performance

Coordinate across departments for effective fleet-related resolutions

Provide up-to-date KPI reporting and regular cost-performance feedback

Enforce health and safety standards across all logistics staff
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
-
Grade 12 / Matric certificate (required)
-
3 to 5 years’ experience in a similar Fleet Controller role, preferably within the FMCG or retail logistics sector
