Position Purpose

  • Provide onsite healthcare services to Transnet National Ports Authority and other port users’ employees.
  • Promote employee wellness, reduce absenteeism, and improve productivity.
  • Deliver occupational healthcare in compliance with relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct employee consultations and record findings in compliance with legal requirements.
  2. Trace and follow up on chronic treatment defaulters to ensure adherence to prescribed treatments.
  3. Provide health education and counseling to employees.
  4. Verify and countersign drug registers with a registered nurse as per legal requirements.
  5. Attend to medical emergencies to prevent complications and save lives.
  6. Maintain and replenish first aid boxes at depots.
  7. Compile and analyze healthcare data for reporting purposes.
  8. Assist the doctor with minor procedures as required.
  9. Conduct medical examinations to ensure employees are fit for their respective job roles.
  10. Sort and triage patients based on medical needs before doctor consultations.
  11. Inspect and maintain medical equipment for optimal use.
  12. File and secure medical records to maintain confidentiality.
  13. Assist in ordering medical supplies to meet employee healthcare needs.
  14. Monitor and manage stock levels to prevent shortages.
  15. Build rapport with employees while ensuring privacy and confidentiality.
  16. Update medical records in the computer system as needed.
  17. Collaborate with departments such as EAP, HR, and Management to address employee wellness needs.
  18. Execute additional responsibilities as delegated by the Senior Sister.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education:
    • Grade 12 certificate.
    • Diploma in Nursing or a 4-year BCur Degree in Nursing or Occupational Nursing.
    • Dispensing License.
    • Certificate in Audiometry and Spirometry.
  • Experience:
    • 3–5 years of relevant experience in Occupational Health Nursing.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Valid Code 8 driver’s license.
    • Computer literacy.
