As part of our Engineering team, we are looking for a qualified Diesel Mechanic to join our team at the Rustenburg Operating Site. Job Purpose The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and repair of a range of commercial vehicles, forklifts, bakkies, and cars. The successful candidate will report to the Transport Manager and play a crucial role in ensuring the fleet is in optimal condition, minimizing downtime, and supporting the operational needs of the business. Key Responsibilities Vehicle Fleet Maintenance & Service Perform regular maintenance and servicing of the fleet, which includes trucks, trailers, forklifts, and bakkies. Ensure all vehicles and mobile equipment are in optimal working condition, including mechanical and electrical components. Address and repair any mechanical issues or faults to restore vehicles to full operational capacity. Roadside Assistance & Breakdown Support Provide roadside assistance in the event of breakdowns, ensuring that any issues are resolved efficiently and safely to get vehicles back on the road. Respond to emergency breakdowns and ensure quick response times to reduce downtime. Auto Electrical Work Perform auto electrical work on the fleet, including troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs of electrical systems. Knowledge of electrical forklifts and experience in auto electrical work will be an advantage in ensuring comprehensive maintenance of the vehicles. Documentation & Reporting Complete job cards accurately and timeously for all repairs and maintenance tasks performed. Investigate any accidents and incidents involving the fleet and contribute to incident reports to ensure safety standards are maintained. Operational Support Perform standby duties as required to ensure that the fleet remains operational at all times. Conduct monthly depot visits to check the condition of the vehicles and ensure compliance with safety and maintenance standards. Minimum Requirements Qualifications Qualified Diesel Mechanic with a Trade Test Certificate. N3 qualification in a relevant engineering field. Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification. Experience A minimum of 3 years’ hands-on experience working with Isuzu trucks and Toyota trucks. Experience with forklifts (especially electrical forklifts) will be advantageous. Experience with auto electrical work is highly preferred. Skills & Knowledge Proficient in auto electrical work and vehicle diagnostics. Strong knowledge of vehicle mechanics and the ability to repair and maintain various vehicle types, including trucks, bakkies, and mobile equipment. Code EC driver’s license with PDP (Professional Driver’s Permit) is required. Computer literacy is necessary for job card processing and other administrative tasks. Good written and verbal communication skills to document and report on tasks effectively. Strong attention to detail, ensuring all repairs and maintenance tasks meet safety standards and specifications. Ability to work independently, manage your workload efficiently, and make decisions under pressure. Leadership skills to handle responsibilities, supervise assistants, and manage tasks effectively. Own tools are required to perform the duties of the position. Other Requirements Must be willing to work extended hours, including public holidays when required. Ability to work under pressure and ensure vehicle availability during peak periods. A commitment to upholding safety protocols and ensuring vehicle compliance with regulatory standards.
