Role Overview
The Controller – Frontline Department plays a critical role in maintaining service standards, preventing losses, and ensuring smooth customer transactions at Brights Hardware’s Bellville branch.
This position goes beyond standard cashier supervision—it requires a keen eye for detail, accuracy in invoice verification, and the ability to ensure that the items leaving the store match what is recorded on customer receipts. As a frontline controller, you will also be the face of the store for many customers, greeting them, resolving concerns, and safeguarding Brights’ reputation for service excellence.

Key Responsibilities
As a Controller – Frontline Department, your duties will include:

Ensuring that the actual items purchased correspond with the customer’s receipt, preventing discrepancies and potential losses.

Verifying that every item is correctly scanned and recorded in the system.

Keeping accurate records of inter-branch sales for reporting and tracking.

Greeting customers warmly as they enter and exit the store, maintaining Brights’ reputation for friendly and approachable service.

Monitoring checkout stations, including self-service points, to support cashiers and address customer needs.

Preventing duplications of “to follow” items and ensuring proper processing.

Participating in perpetual stocktakes to maintain stock accuracy and inventory control.

Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of your work area in line with company housekeeping standards.

Carrying out additional tasks delegated by superiors to support overall operations.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered:

Matric (Grade 12) or successful completion of three Intercept courses equating to a total of 120 credits.

Grade C Security Certificate will be an added advantage.

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar frontline control or retail supervisory role.

Completion of Brights Induction Training (Service Excellence) preferred.

Knowledge of internal procedures, departmental products, and store operations.

Previous experience in stock control or cashier monitoring will be highly advantageous.
