Role Overview
Ares Holdings is seeking a detailed-oriented and highly analytical Retail Controller to oversee financial operations and drive profitability across its retail stores in Cape Town. The Retail Controller will manage daily accounting processes, ensure accurate financial reporting, and provide insights to optimize retail performance.
This role is critical for the success of the retail operations, requiring a candidate with strong bookkeeping, reconciliations, and analytical skills. The Retail Controller will collaborate with store teams, finance managers, and operational staff to ensure seamless financial operations while maintaining compliance with company policies.
Key Responsibilities
As a Retail Controller at Ares Holdings, your core responsibilities will include:
Data Capturing and Reconciliation

Accurately reconcile point-of-sale income with bank account receipts and CIT reports per store.

Capture all cashbook receipts and store account transactions.
-
Ensure reconciliations are performed timely and accurately across all retail outlets.

Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data proactively.
Retail Control and Financial Oversight

Monitor retail financial operations to optimize profitability and performance.

Resolve store-related and e-commerce financial queries efficiently.

Process customer refunds in compliance with company procedures.
-
Liaise with CIT providers regarding deposit issues and discrepancies.
-
Follow up with banking institutions on refunds and transaction queries.
General Administrative Duties

Communicate effectively with the Financial Manager and Financial Controller regarding operational or accounting issues.

Maintain accurate filing and documentation of financial records for audits and compliance.

Support general office administration as required.

Provide insights and recommendations for improving financial processes and controls.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in finance, accounting, and retail operations:

Education: Certificate or Diploma in Bookkeeping or Finance.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in creditors and debtors reconciliations and accounting processes.

Experience in point-of-sale reconciliations is advantageous.

Knowledge of general ledger accounting, allocations, and store financial operations.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word.

Minimum 2 years’ working experience with well-known accounting packages, with SAP Business One highly preferred.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
