Role Overview

The Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for the technical installation, commissioning, and configuration of Electronic Security Solutions, ensuring optimal value for customers and alignment with project specifications. This includes work on Intruder Detection Systems, CCTV, Access Control, Fire Detection, and Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS). The ideal candidate is a technically skilled professional with the required certifications, strong project management fundamentals, and the ability to work independently in complex installations.

This position is based in Midrand, Gauteng and is offered on a part-time basis, ideal for seasoned engineers looking for flexibility while working on technically stimulating projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute technical installations and commissioning of projects, particularly in CCTV, Access Control, and Alarm Systems

  • Log time accurately to reflect project hours for cost analysis

  • Configure software, servers, and database systems to align with project requirements

  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety protocols during on-site operations

  • Prepare and submit comprehensive handover documentation post-installation

  • Conduct full operational testing as per original design and project acceptance standards

  • Offer technical advice to clients and internal teams, ensuring proposed solutions are practical and compliant

  • Supervise on-site teams during installation and commissioning, enforcing quality standards

  • Liaise with client IT teams to ensure proper configuration for offsite monitoring and network security

  • Uphold data protection standards and ensure all client information remains secure during system setup

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent – Essential

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Alarms, CCTV, and Access Control – Required

  • Certification in Access Control and CCTV – Required

  • Network and Server Certification (N+, A+, S+) – Essential

  • SQL and basic database query skills – Advantageous

  • Project Management Fundamentals – Required

  • Valid Code 08 driver’s license – Essential

  • PSIRA Registration (Grade C) – Mandatory

Required Technical Skills

  • Advanced understanding of electronic security hardware and software systems

  • Experience in configuring integrated systems across Access Control, Fire Detection, and CCTV

  • Strong networking skills including IP configurations, routing, and firewall integration

  • Ability to perform database configurations, updates, and backups

  • Knowledge of security best practices for software and hardware implementations
