Position Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join our iMpunzi Complex in Witbank, Mpumalanga. The successful candidate will oversee the Engineering and Maintenance functions at the Complex, ensuring compliance with relevant legislative and Glencore standards, optimising asset performance, managing budgets, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compliance: Ensure the Complex complies with all relevant Engineering Legislative requirements, as well as Glencore PLC and Glencore Coal SA Engineering Standards.
  • Asset Performance Optimisation: Manage and improve equipment performance and life cycle cost to ensure efficiency.
  • Risk Management: Identify and manage engineering risks to ensure safe and effective operations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead and implement continuous improvement projects to enhance operational efficiency and performance.
  • Budget Management: Oversee the Complex engineering budget, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Leadership: Provide strategic guidance and leadership to the engineering team, fostering a culture aligned with Glencore’s Values and Code of Conduct.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering.
  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC).
  • Professional Engineer certification (ECSA) will be advantageous.
  • Business qualification will be an added advantage.
  • Valid Driver’s License (Code EB/08).

Minimum Experience:

  • At least 5 years of coal mining engineering experience at an Engineer level.
  • Experience with Opencast Mining Equipment, including large-scale trucks, shovels, and draglines.
  • Knowledge and experience in Dense Medium Separation (DMS) Plants.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to set clear objectives, manage resources, and drive performance.
  • Decisive decision-making abilities, particularly in high-risk situations that impact business outcomes.
  • Ability to maintain high performance and meet financial objectives.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to inspire and foster commitment within teams.
