About the Company

The organisation is a leading player in the South African manufacturing industry, committed to producing high-quality products while empowering communities through skills development programmes. With facilities located in Prospecton, Durban, the company focuses on innovation, safety, and continuous growth. This learnership opportunity forms part of the company’s broader talent development strategy, designed to equip young unemployed South Africans with the technical knowledge and practical workplace experience they need to succeed in the competitive manufacturing sector.

By investing in unemployed youth through structured training and mentorship, the company contributes directly to socio-economic development in KwaZulu-Natal. Participants in this programme will gain exposure to modern manufacturing operations, acquire technical knowledge, and develop the skills required to pursue a career in mechanical, electrical, or production fields.

Role Overview

The Learner Maintenance (Unemployed Prod) Programme is a structured learnership that combines theoretical instruction with hands-on practical training. Learners will be placed in a real-world manufacturing environment where they will be exposed to different aspects of production, maintenance, and operations. This programme is specifically tailored for unemployed individuals who want to enter the manufacturing industry and gain formal recognition of their skills.

On successful completion, learners will achieve a National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 3 certification, which enhances employability and opens doors to further training or entry-level technical jobs in South Africa’s industrial sector.

Key Responsibilities

During the learnership, participants will be expected to:

  • Work effectively as part of a production and maintenance team.

  • Follow all workplace safety procedures and apply knowledge of safe work practices.

  • Correctly use hand tools and power tools in various manufacturing tasks.

  • Read, understand, and interpret assembly and manufacturing drawings.

  • Apply marking-off techniques as part of preparation for welding and fabrication.

  • Carry out basic welding tasks under supervision.

  • Operate and monitor production machinery according to set standards.

  • Prepare and maintain surfaces before and after production activities.

  • Respond to emergency scenarios with basic fire-fighting techniques.

  • Assist in daily operations, product handling, and dispatch of finished goods.

This training is not only technical but also holistic, ensuring that learners develop the professional discipline, adaptability, and teamwork skills required to thrive in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this learnership, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • A National Technical Certificate (N3 – N6) is highly recommended.

  • A Matric/Technical Matric with key technical subjects such as:

Candidates who have successfully completed technical studies but have not yet had the opportunity to gain industry experience are encouraged to apply. This programme bridges the gap between classroom learning and practical workplace application.

The ideal learner will demonstrate:

  • Strong communication skills to interact with supervisors, mentors, and fellow team members.

  • Good planning and organising skills to manage assigned tasks effectively.

  • Adaptability to different work conditions and challenges in a manufacturing setting.

  • Analytical thinking to solve problems and troubleshoot technical issues.
