ROLE OVERVIEW
The IT Support Technician will be responsible for providing comprehensive technical support to end-users, including installing desktop software and hardware, troubleshooting technical problems, and maintaining IT infrastructure. This position requires a hands-on approach in diagnosing and resolving IT issues, both in person and remotely, as well as proactive maintenance to prevent downtime. You will also manage an inventory of spare parts and liaise with vendors to ensure timely repairs and replacements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Stabilised Data Centre Environment
- Detect and respond promptly to technical problems, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement changes based on service performance data.
- Maintain the business unit’s computer services and ensure configurations follow industry best practices.
- Make recommendations for new computer products or upgrades to improve productivity.
- Store and manage spare parts inventory for systems, subsystems, and components used in repairs.
User Engagement
- Respond to incidents logged by end-users that cannot be resolved telephonically.
- Provide on-site desktop support using diagnostic tools to ensure prompt resolution.
- Update the service desk on incident resolutions for accurate reporting.
- Coach and train end-users on using software and systems effectively.
Desktop Installations
- Prepare and execute the installation of required software.
- Install or update hardware and software in line with operational needs.
- Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and communicate resource requirements.
- Keep the repository of standards up to date.
Vendor Engagement
- Liaise with vendors for the procurement of parts, repairs, and services.
- Schedule logistics for equipment delivery or repairs.
- Escalate unresolved issues to the appropriate vendor or service provider.
- Attend vendor management meetings when necessary.
- Process orders for approval once work is completed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education
- 2-Year Diploma in IT or equivalent NQF Level 6 qualification in Information Technology.
- MCSE or ITIL Foundation Certification will be advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant IT industry experience.
- Willingness to work shifts and weekends.
- Ability to work overtime when required to meet operational demands.
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong technical acumen and understanding of technology operations.
- Risk management skills to proactively mitigate IT-related issues.
- Excellent listening and communication skills.
- Telephone etiquette and professional customer engagement abilities.
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure, client computing, and hospitality-related systems.
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on delivering results.
