DEPARTMENT MANAGER – GARDEN AND LANDSCAPING (ALBERTON)

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Department Manager to lead the Garden and Landscaping department in Alberton. About the Role

As Department Manager, you will be a role model and leader for the sales consultants, supporting the Head of Department while ensuring the day-to-day management of the department runs smoothly. You will focus on building a high-performing team, improving operational efficiency, and delivering an outstanding customer experience.


Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and support a team of sales consultants to achieve collective performance goals.
  • Facilitate open communication and share important information within the team.
  • Develop staff skills and knowledge to meet strategic business objectives.
  • Train and mentor staff to deliver exceptional customer service.

Sales and Customer Relations

  • Manage daily sales activities and maintain quality customer relationships.
  • Coordinate sales initiatives and contribute to in-store sales efforts.
  • Ensure all stock is priced, displayed, and managed correctly.
  • Maintain a customer-centric approach in all department operations.

Operational Management

  • Build and implement the department’s Business Action Plan.
  • Introduce efficiency and improvement measures for optimal return on investment and stakeholder value.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Head of Department.
  • Ensure sufficient staffing levels to deliver excellent customer service.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or NQF Level 4 equivalent; relevant tertiary qualification is advantageous.
  • Previous retail experience at a junior management level.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and lead teams.
  • Customer-focused with a confident, hardworking attitude.
  • Analytical thinker who is assertive and challenges the status quo.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced retail environment.
