Join RCL Foods as a Code 10 Driver in Empangeni
RCL Foods is looking for a motivated and customer-focused Code 10 Driver to join their baking business unit based in the Empangeni area, KwaZulu-Natal. This permanent role reports directly to the Distribution Manager and involves both transportation and sales duties within the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 qualification
- Valid Code 10 driver’s license and Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
- Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English
- Good numeracy skills
- Minimum 2 years driving experience in FMCG delivery and sales, including cash transactions with existing and new customers
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle and Safety Compliance
- Maintain a clean, hygienic vehicle and ensure PPE is worn at all times
- Perform daily vehicle checks using company checklists and report any faults immediately
- Adhere strictly to road safety and Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements
- Report any accidents, theft, or damages to the Logistics Manager promptly
Stock and Loading Management
- Verify that stock loaded matches customer orders and sign off on loading sheets
- Ensure safe vehicle loading to maintain road safety standards
- Inspect stock quality and report any issues
- Assist with loading and supervise van assistants when applicable
Sales and Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional service by being friendly, helpful, and respectful to customers
- Take orders, deliver bread and confectionery products, and manage cash transactions
- Pursue opportunities to increase sales and acquire new customers
- Communicate any customer or delivery issues to supervisors promptly
- Implement sales promotions as required
Delivery and Route Management
- Ensure accurate delivery according to customer orders
- Monitor stock levels to avoid shortages, coordinating replenishment when necessary
- Secure orders for the following day and submit to the sales department on time
- Collect and return crates daily to Sunshine Bakery premises
- Assist with deliveries during vehicle breakdowns or special assignments
Transactional Duties
- Secure cash, paperwork, and stock; use vehicle safe at all times
- Deposit cash promptly and be vigilant against counterfeit currency
- Complete all necessary documentation accurately, including invoices, delivery notes, and vehicle logs
- Perform cash-ups in the presence of a supervisor after routes
- Investigate and report any cash or stock shortages within set timeframes
Competitor Monitoring
- Collect and report competitor sales and product information to improve market positioning
General Expectations
- Drivers must be flexible to assist with other operational duties such as van assistant or loader when needed
- Comply fully with health and safety standards and report any health issues affecting safe driving
Location and Contract Details
- Based in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal
- Permanent position with expected work on weekends, public holidays, and overtime as required
- Standby duties may apply for absenteeism coverage
